Nazaré
Nazaré is full of flavour
The traditional dishes from Nazaré include a great variety of fish and the seafood is always fresh. For example, there is the fish stew from Nazaré, the sardines, dogfish, octopus and horse mackerel, which are always freshly grilled or used in pasta dishes or cataplanas. In addition to the fresh fish, there is also dried horse mackerel, a specialty found only here, which can also be enjoado (dried for only one day), octopus and dogfish. Seafood is also representative of local gastronomy, especially in rice, bread stews and cataplana dishes.
Other flavours: noteworthy are the desserts which sweetly follow the main courses, such as “sweet sardines” (puff pastry filled and covered with custard), támares (small boat-shaped cakes), or fóquins, both filled with custard and nazarenos.

The roads are narrow and perpendicular to the ocean, where the essence of the local people can be felt, who melodically speak and enchant with their way of living and dressing – (the women wear seven skirts, which represent the seven virtues, the seven days of the week, the seven colours of the rainbow or the seven waves of the ocean)
